Lock Haven’s Riverwalk

Situated in the I-80 Frontier of the PA Wilds, one end of the Lock Haven riverwalk levee takes travelers to the Elk Scenic Drive, but the entire levee runs along the West Branch Susquehanna River, which is also a great place to swim, fish, or boat.

Writer Ed Byers has long been intrigued by the number of people from the Pennsylvania Wilds who went on to national acclaim. Many of them, coming from somewhat humble beginnings, include famous sports figures, noted authors, writers, musicians, and some who made an impact on Hollywood. New website to help people protect state parks, forests

The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF), a non-profit with a mission geared towards Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests, recently unveiled a new website --  ProtectOurParksandForests.org -- designed to help mobilize the public to protect state parks and forests.

A Crash Course on e-Books, Libraries and Bookstores in the PA Wilds

COVID-19 made some drastic changes to the experiences offered in the Pennsylvania Wilds. Many places have been closed, or are offering limited services. However, some libraries are still offering certain services. If you already have a library card, and you have a computer or tablet, there are some things you can access from home, such as e-books.

Earth Day and The Wilderness Act: Deep Roots in the Pennsylvania Wilds

It was 50 years ago, April 22, 1970, that our annual observance of Earth Day began with 20 million people demanding change for a cleaner, healthier, sustainable environment. However, there was another environmental movement underway long before that, beginning right here in the Allegheny National Forest and Surrounds, by Tionesta’s Howard Zahniser. He wrote the 1964 National Wilderness Act that directed Congress to establish and protect wilderness areas on national forest land.
