2019 ‘Do 6’ Award recipients include three PA Wilds honorees

On May 23, 2019, PA Route 6 Alliance held its annual “Do 6” Awards banquet in Hawley, Pennsylvania. Each year the awards are presented to individuals, organizations, businesses and corporations that exemplify the mission of the PA Route 6 Alliance to protect, preserve and enhance the scenic, cultural, historical and recreational resources of Pennsylvania’s northern tier. This year, three of the six “Do 6” awards were bestowed upon Pennsylvania Wilds recipients.

Renaissance on the River: The Revitalization of Downtown Lock Haven

Nestled in a beautiful valley of the Susquehanna River’s West Branch in the PA Wilds I-80 Frontier landscape lies the city of Lock Haven. Named for the Pennsylvania Canal Locks, which powered Pennsylvania’s logging industry to unbridled prosperity, the town flourished and became universally known as a ‘haven’ for the timber industry. Today Lock Haven is reinventing itself and fast becoming a shining example of the hard work and determination of people in the PA Wilds who refuse to say “die”.

Traversing Fred Woods Trail in Elk Country

Fred Woods Trail is a scenic 3-mile loop on top of the hills in Driftwood, PA, a small community that sits on the edge of the Elk Country and Dark Skies landscapes in the Pennsylvania Wilds.  Photographer Samantha Cunningham recently journeyed out to the trail to take a hike with her dog, Sadie, and she captured beautiful photos along the way!
