Roads open for 2022-23 hunting seasons in ANF, Bradford Ranger District

The USDA Forest Service will open 58 Forest Roads on the Allegheny National Forest’s Bradford Ranger District for hunter access between September 24, 2022, and January 22, 2023, unless otherwise noted. Traditionally many of the normally gated roads are opened each fall to allow preseason scouting and legal hunting during select Pennsylvania hunt seasons.

New bridge will connect sections of Bald Eagle Valley Trail, renamed Katie’s Crossing

Two sections of the Bald Eagle Valley Trail in Clinton County have now been connected, and the bridge was dedicated and named in honor of Clinton County planner Katie de Silva, who helped make the connecting bridge a reality.

DCNR seeking comment on draft of e-bike policy

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) this week will outline a draft internal policy on the use of electric bicycles (e-bikes) on DCNR lands to the Conservation and Natural Resources Advisory Council for public comment. The current draft states that, on the lands it manages, DCNR will allow e-bikes on trails already open to traditional bicycle usage. Public comment is due by August 31.

PA Great Outdoors holding hiking trail photo contest

The PA Great Outdoors Visitors Bureau is holding a hiking trails photo contest. The contest runs until the end of August 2022. Finalists’ photos will be posted online in September, with the four entries receiving the most votes winning cash prizes. The only requirements are that the photos meet the contest theme and must be taken in Jefferson, Elk, Clarion, Forest or Cameron Counties.

DCNR investment in ATV and snowmobile trails, many in PA Wilds

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced new grant funding totaling $955,500 for all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and snowmobile facilities and trails in Pennsylvania. This includes many trails throughout the PA Wilds, including the Allegheny National Forest, along with Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, Lycoming, McKean, Potter, Tioga, Union and Warren Counties.

Show Us Your Hyner photo contest for puzzle, deadline July 24

The Clinton County Visitors Bureau is creating a puzzle series featuring local landmarks, and the first puzzle will showcase one of the area’s most famous and most visited site, Hyner View. The deadline to submit high-quality photos for the puzzle will be midnight on July 24, 2022.
