Small College Baseball and Softball World Series returns to DuBois May 12-16

Baseball is huge in these PA Wilds, and you don’t have to look hard to find it. Williamsport has been hosting the Little League World Series since 1947 and is also home to the Philadelphia Phillies’ minor-league Class A, short-season affiliate Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Penn League. Now gaining national attention is the city of DuBois, which steps up to the plate and smacks yet another grand slam for the city and the local economy in landing the Small College Baseball and Softball World Series for the second consecutive year.

The PA Wilds in Harrisburg – A Future Constituent’s View

Sadie Martonik, a 4th grader from Kane, McKean County, shares her experience visiting the State Capitol in Harrisburg with a delegation from the Pennsylvania Wilds. The delegation included staff of the PA Wilds Center, families and “future constituents” Sadie Martonik, Max and Cole Enos, and Sloane Lewis.

‘Raising Kane’: Kane’s Re-Birth and Revitalization Goes Uptown

In downtown Kane, PA, sidewalks and roads are undergoing vast improvements, new and established businesses are expanding, parks and memorials are being spruced-up. More cultural events, such as the annual Art in the Wilds Festival, are happening, and an uptown amphitheater hosts concerts, social gatherings and weddings. Things are happening in this Allegheny National Forest & Surrounds town, and PA Wilds contributor Ed Byers recently spoke to local officials to learn more about the revitalization happening there.

Coudersport: Carving a Niche in the Modern Economy

In 2004, economic disaster loomed large in Coudersport. Its largest employer, Adelphia, filed bankruptcy and began moving out of town. A full-blown economic recession followed just a few years later. Efforts by a number of individuals throughout the community have helped spur local economic development - and as more and more young people take to the outdoors, tourism is making a resurgence as a major driver of Coudersport and Potter County’s economy.
