Planners and Conservation District officials are the “front lines” of keeping the Wilds wild.
Underpinning all of our efforts are the goals and principles of the PA Wilds Design Guide for Community Character Stewardship and PA Wilds Design Guide Supplement for Oil and Gas Best Practices, and “One Water” Principles. (Please note: These may be incorporated, either by reference or in extracts, into county and municipal zoning and land development ordinances.)

U.S. Forest Service’s Handbook for Scenery Management
The U.S. Forest Service’s Aesthetics: A Handbook for Scenery Management provides advice on how to safeguard scenic assets such as viewsheds. Geared toward national forest resource managers, landscape architects, and others interested in landscape aesthetics and scenery, the handbook will also appeal to both students and the general public due to its straightforward approach. The system is to be used in the context of ecosystem management to inventory and analyze scenery in a national forest, to assist in establishment of overall resource goals and objectives, to monitor the scenic resource, and to ensure high-quality scenery for future generations.
