The Trails at Jakes Rocks: A Dream Come True in Warren County
By Jeremy Bickling, Stratos Media Solutions
If you would have told me 10 years ago there would be a world class mountain bike trail system here in Warren County, I would have said you were dreaming.
Not only did a dedicated group of mountain bikers, donors and volunteers make that dream come true, what they created is so much more than I ever could have imagined.
Warren County has long been know as the home of the Allegheny National Forest, Allegheny River, and the Kinzua Dam & Reservoir.
The Trails at Jakes Rocks are a 30 mile (and growing) built in to the hills that encompass the lower portions of the Kinzua Reservoir. The terrain in the eastern portions of the county rugged, rocky and very scenic… the perfect mix to overload your senses and challenge your body and your mind.
Much like a ski resort, the trial system is color coded to give you a designation of the type of challenge you will face. Unique topography has allowed trail builders to create a wandering and flowing trail system that meanders along the hillsides. The trails are a feast for your senses. Massive rock formations lay between tress like sleeping giants. The sounds of tires rolling over packed trail, rock surfaces and wooden bridges are just part of that experience.
Once most have seen Warren County is more than just this system of trails. From the breathtaking and expansive views of Rim Rock, world class camping and boating, miles of hiking through the Allegheny National Forest (including the world famous North County Trail), canoeing/kayaking on the Allegheny River and of course the beauty of the historical downtown of Warren Pennsylvania.
I’ve told people my who entire life they had to come and experience Warren County for themselves. Now thanks to the hard work and dedication of so many, people from all over the country are telling people they know the very same thing.
