Outfitting the PA Wilds: Destination Marketing Organizations
Part of the Outfitting the PA Wilds series
Destination Marketing Organizations (or DMOs) do a wide variety of things to help visitors have an unforgettable experience in the region. They also support outfitters and other businesses that allow travelers to truly have hands-on adventures.
DMOs know their areas of the Pennsylvania Wilds inside-out! Just like outfitting businesses can make recommendations on water levels at local rivers or difficulty of trails, DMOs can give travelers recommendations and information about all of their traveling needs. Many produce free maps and event booklets to make it safer and easier for people to explore.
Although DMOs aren’t what you would typically think of as your normal “outfitter,” they are still a vital part of ensuring that adventurers have the necessary knowledge and background information for exploring the PA Wilds region in a meaningful way. While a traditional outfitter provides the equipment and expertise needed to explore specific outdoor places, DMOs provide the knowledge and details needed to explore the communities around those places.
Whether you are looking for more information about lodging accommodations, you are searching for a certain style of restaurant or a top-rated brewery, or you have specific needs, such as a handicap accessible venue or somewhere that can accommodate a large family, the representatives at the eight DMOs in the PA Wilds can help.
Each of the region’s DMOs are well connected with organizations, businesses, people and places throughout their respective service areas, and they can truly guide visitors in finding the best experience possible. Some DMOs even offer events or festivals during the year, which gives travelers the chance to explore the region in a more in-depth way and learn more about the history and culture of the area.
