Hiking the West Creek Recreational Trail
Photos submitted by Samantha Cunningham
The West Creek Recreational Trail in St. Marys, a community located in the Elk Country landscape of the Pennsylvania Wilds, runs from St. Marys to Emporium, a borough that flanks the Elk Country and Dark Skies landscapes. This trail has been completed within the last five years out of an old railroad way, hence the name “rails to trail.” This particular part of the path is off of Jackson Road, where you can cross over the old train trestle. In the winter time you are able to ride snowmobiles along the 18-mile stretch. It delivers beautiful scenery along the way.
