A family bike ride on the Knox & Kane Rail Trail

Head Back

The Knox & Kane Rail Trail is nearly 74 scenic miles through some the most beautiful portions of the PA Wilds and Allegheny National Forest.

We decided to test out our new child trailer on the 7.8-mile portion from Lantz Corners to the Kinzua Bridge State Park. Parking is ample at the Lantz Corners starting point. The route is easy to ride with very little change in elevation. The route meanders parallel to Route 6.

There’s a midpoint rest stop with historical information at Mount Jewett. This stop also serves a parking area / starting point if you were looking for a shorter route for your adventure.

Once you arrive at the Kinzua Bridge State Park, a host of recent updates and stunning views from the trestle remains await. The playground has been recently updated, and it’s a unique blend of clever railroad theming and modern playground design elements.

The main building at Kinzua Bridge is stunning. Once inside, you are treated to fascinating and entertaining educational and historical elements. The story of the train trestle and the natural disaster that lead to its demise are very well told.

On the ground floor there’s even a PA Wilds Conservation Shop, serving as a gift shop with unique and stylish Kinzua Bridge and Pennsylvania Wilds merchandise to commemorate your adventure.

This trail is well worth the ride or walk. It’s peaceful and filled with interesting features and a must-see destination.
