Fall foliage festivals celebrate the onset of autumn, beauty of changing leaves

Fall leaf peeping is a fun pastime for people living in or traveling throughout the Pennsylvania Wilds in early fall, with residents and visitors alike jumping in the car for a scenic journey along back roads through the forests. Several communities throughout the region have found special ways to mark the annual occasion. Two of the largest events include the Autumn Leaf Festival in Clarion and the Flaming Foliage Festival in Renovo.

Bellefonte Under the Lights: Harnessing the power of community character

A fundraiser for Downtown Bellefonte Inc., Bellefonte Under the Lights last year proved to be one of the most successful events the community has ever seen, with tickets selling out in just under two hours. Now in its second year, organizers have doubled the number of tickets sold to the event — accommodating up to 800 people — and tickets have sold out once again. Planners believe it's proof that leaders can harness the power of what makes their community unique.

On Saturday, August 17, those wishing to have a unique cultural experience are invited to attend the 4th Annual Lock Haven Jazz and Art on Main Street (LH JAMS) Festival. The LH JAMS Festival is a block-party style event that takes over Main Street in downtown Lock Haven, a picturesque I-80 Frontier community that is situated along the West Branch Susquehanna River.

On a warm July weekend last year in the Pennsylvania Wilds Dark Skies landscape, the population of Coudersport nearly doubled for the inaugural three-day Eliot Ness Festival, paying homage to Coudersport’s most famous son. This year the three-day festival is set for July 19-21 in downtown Coudersport.

Experience Art in the Wilds on June 22-23

During the fourth weekend in June, a group of fine artists and artisans assemble for the annual Art in the Wilds show.  Set up in the cool shade of Evergreen Park, Art in the Wilds showcases the natural setting and friendly small-town atmosphere of Kane, Pennsylvania. Driving to Kane, PA, visitors enjoy traveling through beautiful hardwood forests, taking in the lushness of summer in the Pennsylvania Wilds.
