The USDA Forest Service is hiring temporary student trainees (interns) across the nation, including in the Allegheny National Forest.

Located in the western portion of the Pennsylvania Wilds, the Allegheny National Forest (ANF) is Pennsylvania’s only National Forest and is home to open skies, rolling mountains, and seemingly endless forest. Established in 1923, the ANF covers 517,000 acres. The Allegheny National Forest’s motto “Land of Many Uses” speaks to the balance of outdoor recreation, watershed protection, wildlife habitat management, and sustainable forestry practices.

Internships are available in social sciences, administrative support, natural resources, engineering, and other exciting and rewarding career paths. As part of this national hiring event, Allegheny National Forest plans to bring on a total of 10 student interns in one of six career fields.

For the Supervisor’s Office, they will hire an engineering intern. For the Bradford Ranger District, they will hire two Archeology Interns, two Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Interns (Timber), and a Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Intern (Biological Science). For the Marienville Ranger District, they will hire an Administration and Office Support Intern, a Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Intern (Timber), a Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Intern (Recreation), and a Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Intern (Biological Science).

Applications are only accepted through www.usajobs.gov from January 5, 2023, through January 27, 2023. Review the job announcement carefully for deadlines and required information to include in your application. Employment start dates vary.

About the USDA Forest Service – Allegheny National Forest:

Established in 1923, the Allegheny National Forest (ANF) is Pennsylvania’s only National Forest. Situated on the Allegheny Plateau, the forest is comprised of 514,029 acres in the northwestern corner of the state. The slogan “Land of Many Uses” captures a vision of a healthy, vigorous, working forest that provides timber and wood products, watershed protection, access to underground minerals, ties to cultural history, a diversity of wildlife habitats, and outstanding outdoor recreation opportunities — not only today but in a sustainable way so future generations can enjoy these benefits.
