    Explore a Pennsylvania Wilds Trail Today

    You're sure to find your path to paradise when you have access to over 2 million acres of beautiful forested land, more than 1,600 miles of designated hiking trails and 1,800 rustic camping sites... Welcome to the Pennsylvania Wilds!

    Through and around 29 State Parks, 8 State Forests, and 1 National Forest the Pennsylvania Wilds is the perfect destination for all outdoor enthusiasts.  Challenge yourself on a rugged terrain or enjoy a breath of fresh air with the family.

    Hike the hills - More than 1,600 miles of trails full of scenic overlooks, waterfalls, wildlife and other fascinating creations.  Perfect for challenging your endurance, backpacking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife watching, or a scenic stroll.  Designated a National Scenic Trail, the 96-mile North Country Trail is perfect for backpacking and open for winter hiking.

    Explore on two wheels - Nearly 1,000 miles of designated bicycle trails ranging in all skill levels - from a steep mountain single track to old dirt roads and railroad beds gently roaming through scenic valleys.  USA Today names the 62-mile Pine Creek Rail Trail one of the 10 best places to take a bike tour, highlighting the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.

    Let the horse lead the way - More than 500 miles of trails featuring unique adventures to experience horseback.  Ride with the elk through Elk Country, pack your gear and experience old time primitive camping and relax at an equestrian friendly bed & breakfast.  Saddle up and hit the Thunder Mountain Equestrian Trail, a 26-mile loop through Elk Country giving you the opportunity to see the wildlife in their natural habitats.

    Rev up your adrenaline on an ATV - More than 200 miles of ATV trails set aside for a fast-paced experience through our forested land.  "Tour De Forest" is a semi-annual event allowing riders on roads and trails through the Allegheny National Forest that aren't normally open to ATV traffic.  Spring Ride and Fall Ride *Please check for rules, regulations and trail conditions.

    Closed for winter? Not in the Wilds! - Nearly 400 miles of designated trails are open to snowmobiles, weather permitting.  Many areas in the Wilds average 60-70" of snow per year.  *Please check for rules, regulations and trail conditions.

    Slow it down and float down the river - The 16,000 miles of rivers, streams and waterways has endless possibilities of enjoying the outdoors including two designated National Wild & Scenic rivers.  Rent a canoe or kayak, access nearly 100 boat launches accommodating a variety of boating opportunities, or cast a line in one of the 2,000 wild trout streams.  Three water trails within the PA Wilds include the 240-mile West Branch Susquehanna River Water Trail, the 100-mile Clarion River Water Trail and the 85-mile Middle Allegheny River Water Trail.

    Endurance events have established our part of Pennsylvania as a significant destination for those who love the challenge of the outdoors.
